Time-bound campaigns — proposed by members, approved by the board — operate as named coalitions inside the Alliance. The umbrella persists; coalitions intensify around specific battles. This shape lets us mobilize quickly without spinning up a new org each time.
The Alliance holds signatures, publishes research, files comments, runs the watchdog tracker, and convenes funders. AI for Planet is the constructive arm — the catalog of tools, networks, and capital for builders. They reinforce each other: the Alliance defines what we're against, AI for Planet shows what we're for.
The Alliance is the operational expression of a 22-thesis manifesto, written in reply to The Technological Republic by Alexander C. Karp and Nicholas W. Zamiska. The manifesto names the doctrine; the Alliance does the work.
Founding signing began April 2026. Signatures are collected at theplanetaryrepublic.org and held by the Alliance. The manifesto is a living document — peer review, editorial council, and amendment process are being designed for collective stewardship by named co-signers.
Founding stage (2026-2027). Hosted under fiscal sponsorship while the Alliance establishes its independent 501(c)(3) status. Operations led by founding director Mariella Treleven and a forming board of named directors drawn from the manifesto's senior signatories.
Independent stage (2027 onward). Form 1023 filed; permanent 501(c)(3) status established. Three-director minimum board, professional staff for tracker / policy desk / research, and an editorial council overseeing the manifesto and its evolution.
Coalitions stage (rolling). Time-bound campaigns proposed by members and approved by the board operate as named coalitions under the AIPIA umbrella, with their own working groups, deliverables, and timelines.
